In the German-born U.S. Navy pilot Dieter Dengler, Herzog seems to have met his match: Dengler too is a wily, tenacious adventurer, a skilled raconteur-philosopher, and a dreamer of dangerous dreams. This gripping documentary has Dengler recount—and reenact—the harrowing details of his experience as a prisoner in Laos during the Vietnam War, and of his incredible escape—later dramatized by Herzog in "Rescue Dawn" (2006), starring Christian Bale as Dengler.
