The spirit of the Nouvelle Vague animates Alexandre Rockwell’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winner, a veritable who’s who of New York independent cinema—from Cassavetes stalwart Seymour Cassel through to Jim Jarmusch, and an almost babyfaced Steve Buscemi in his first lead role. Buscemi’s Adolfo is a wannabe auteur who gets more than he bargained for when he takes on as his producer an ebullient con man, played with relish by an electric Cassell.
