The final stand-alone chapter in Christian Petzold’s “Love in Times of Oppressive Systems” trilogy boldly transposes Anna Seghers’ 1944 novel of the same name—about a refugee who, in a bid to escape Nazi-occupied France, adopts another man’s identity—to the present day: "Transit" is caught between timelines in much the way that Franz Rogowski’s Georg is caught between countries. The result is something slippery, suspenseful, and eerily timeless.
