Three by Sepideh Farsi

Born in Tehran and based in Paris since 1984, Sepideh Farsi has created a body of work that is both remarkably consistent in its deeply humane political engagement and singularly eclectic in the modes of expression it adopts, encompassing documentary (2009’s "Tehran Without Permission", shot clandestinely on a Nokia camera phone), scripted narrative drama (2014’s "Red Rose", a romance set against the backdrop of the Green Movement protests), and now animation (2022’s "The Siren", which depicts the 1980 outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy in Abadan). One of Iran’s most inventive and exploratory artists-in-exile.
