Directed by Portia Cobb | 26 mins | 1996
A five-film shorts program curated by LA Rebellion affiliated-filmmaker Zeinabu irene Davis, including works by Pierre Desir ("The Gods and the Thief"), Julie Dash ("Four Women"), Portia Cobb ("Don’t Hurry Back: A Diaspora Fable"), and others.
“These shorts were selected because they illustrate common aesthetic and cultural themes in experimental films, such as those by the late great Pierre Desir, the cinematographer of 'Compensation' (1999). The program includes early and contemporary works to show that dedication to creating beautiful films with ambitious form and content can lead to great works. My most recent short, 'Pandemic Bread', is included here as an homage to Desir, who died from complications from cancer and Covid last year.” —Zeinabu irene Davis
